Air Force Versus Army 2010

Air Force Versus Army - October 2, 2010

At the home of Greg and Jenny Ellingson it’s game day.  And, not just any game, but the annual Air Force versus Army game!  The house is filled with approximately 80 Air Force Academy and West Point graduates and their families.   The skies are blue, the air is brisk and it’s a perfect day to watch the game.   Tables are lined with snacks and sweets, the coolers are full and the grill is fired up!   It’s going to be a great day with an even greater rivalry.  It’s college game day!

Tailgating

The Air Force grads arrive sporting their Air Force blue and Falcon regalia while the West Point grads are dressed in the Black Knights’ traditional black and gold.  Both sides are eager for the main event to begin.  Guests are engaged in discussing the teams’ stats while trying to predict how the game will unfold.  The Falcons have home field advantage and are still pumped from the previous weeks’ win.  Everyone is filling up on snacks and appetizers and wonderful smells are wafting from the grill which is being manned by grill master and Air Force Academy graduate, JJ Mcafee.  The atmosphere is jovial with friends reconnecting and others meeting fellow graduates and their families for the first time.

Game Time

Greg has set up several flat screen TVs in and outside the house to encourage camaraderie, and good natured ribbing.   At the kick-off and all eyes focus on the big screen.  Will Air Force Quarterback Tim Jefferson and the Falcons hand the Army another walloping in 2010?  Will the Army’s Trent Steelman and the Black Knights upset the Falcons and hand them their fourth consecutive loss of the season?

Air Force Victory

What a game!  The Falcons soundly beat the Black Knights with a final score of 42-22.  While the West Point fans are disappointed the day ends on a high note with friendly handshakes and expressions of “good game” all around.  We can’t wait till next year and hope to have an even bigger turnout!
