Micco

Micco is a small community located in southern Brevard County and along the Indian River. A beautiful and quiet town nestled far away from noisy city traffic, Micco does have some hotels, marinas. It is 9.9 square miles in area with 2.2 square miles of that water.  Micco shares a zip code with Sebastian (part of Indian River County), its neighbor on the south side of the famous Sebastian Inlet.  Sebastian Inlet offers superior surfing and fishing opportunities.  Residents can enjoy a picnic or overnight camping in Sebastian Inlet State Park.  After a storm, the local beaches will be filled with treasure hunters looking for items washed ashore from sunken Spanish ships.

Even though Micco is a small town, it does have a variety of restaurants.  Other dining and lodging options can be found in nearby Sebastian and Vero Beach. Water activities, including offshore fishing, are popular.

Micco Home Buyer Options

There is a boom of new construction in Micco with over 22 builders coming together. With almost 400 different floor plans home buyers are sure to fit something within their budget.  Builders such as Lennar, Maronda Homes, Kolter Homes, GHO Homes, Ryan Homes, Wade Jurney Homes, Chris Allen Homes and LGI Homes are building new communities in the area.  Look for prices ranging from $176,990 to $2,595,000 and home sizes between 1,208 and 3,633 square feet.

Barefoot Bay, an unincorporated, deed restricted manufactured home community, is located entirely within the unincorporated community of Micco. It is the largest manufactured home community in the State of Florida.  It is a popular winter residence for retirees and snowbirds.

Existing Micco homes consist of single family homes, a very few condos, and manufactured homes.   You won’t find any high rise condos or even townhomes here.  Manufactured home prices start around $45,000, while riverfront front homes can go over $1,000,000.

History

The first settler in Micco was in 1877.  In 1880, a post office was established under the name Chipco.  After only one year, it was reestablished under the name Micco.

Barefoot Bay, an unincorporated, deed restricted, manufactured home community, is located entirely within the unincorporated community of Micco and along US Highway 1. It is the largest manufactured home community in the State of Florida. Barefoot Bay is not an age restricted community.

Barefoot Bay began as a vacation resort for recreational vehicles.  In 1968, The Gulf Acceptance Corporation purchased the original 1,000 acres that became Barefoot Bay.  The vision was for a Polynesian themed recreation community and in 1971, the Polynesian styled clubhouse opened. By 1971, there were 67 families living there. The population today is approximately 8,000. Over the past 40 years, Barefoot Bay has continued to expand.  Today, the community has 3 pools, a lounge, sports bar and restaurant and an ongoing array of entertainment and recreational activities.
