Mims
Mims is a small community located in northern Brevard County and only five miles away from the city conveniences of Titusville. A quiet town nestled far away from noisy city traffic, Mims is surrounded by over 10,000 acres of citrus groves. It is 19.8 square miles in area with a population of just over 7,000. This lack of congestion affords residents with peace, tranquility and the possibility of large properties with room to roam. Many farms with horses, cows, chickens and goats can be found here. Mims is home to many boat ramps in the area, which provide access to both the Indian River and the St. Johns River. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy the links at The Bent Oak Golf and Country Club and Walkabout Golf Club.
Even though Mims is a small town, it does have a variety of attractions including the Harry and Harriette Memorial Park, Loughman Lake Airboat Rides, the White Sands Buddhist Center, Wild Horse Rescue Center, the Indian River Preserve Golf Course and Ever After Farms where you can pick your own blueberries, take a wagon ride and visit the petting zoo. Hotel and dining options are plentiful in nearby Titusville.
Mims is located in Northern Brevard County on what’s known as the “Space Coast”. The Space Coast consists of 72 miles of coastline where beachgoers and surfers flock to the uncrowded beaches and small beach towns for lunch or dinner. Additionally, Brevard County is home to 71% of the 156 mile Indian River Lagoon where residents and visitors take in water sports and activities such as sailing, boating, fishing, paddleboarding and kayaking.
Mims Real Estate is Largely Undeveloped

History
Mims is an old citrus service village that was named after an early settler by the name of Casper Neil Mims who came to the area in 1876. Mims opened the first dry goods and grocery store in the community. The town began to grow and expand with the railroad came to town in 1885. Mims developed into a citrus center with New York Fire Chief, Thomas Nevins, began to buy and develop groves in the area. Nevins Fruit Company became a big shipper of citrus to northern markets.
Harry Moore, state secretary of the NAACP, and his wife lived in Mims and were killed in an explosion at their home on Christmas day, also their 25th wedding anniversary. The KKK was suspected of placing a bomb under the Moore home, but no convictions were ever made and the case is still unsolved. The Brevard County Parks and Recreation Department maintains and operates the Harry T. and Harriette Moore Memorial Park and Interpretive Center at the homesite in Mims.
